To be eligible for Temporary Financial Assistance, the veteran or family member must have either an Ohio State ID or Ohio driver's license; the veteran must have served at least one day of active duty outside of training; must have received a discharge under honorable conditions, must be a resident of Butler County, and must demonstrate a definite financial need. Assistance is intended for veterans or members of the Armed Forces or the spouse, surviving spouse, dependent parent, minor child or ward of a veteran or member of the Armed Forces who is a bona-fide resident of Butler County, OH.

The Veterans Service Commission considers many factors when determining financial need including income from work, benefits from other County, State and Federal Government agencies, your basic living expenses and total assets.

In order to determine if a veteran or family is eligible for Temporary Financial Assistance, the applicant must come for a face-to-face interview.

Applicants approved for Temporary Financial Assistance are also eligible for budget counseling from LifeSpan.

Burial Benefits:
Burial payment up to$1,000 is also offered through the Veterans Service Commission for the indigent or for those who cannot afford the cost of burial or for those in which payment of this cost will cause financial hardship. Veterans, veterans parent, veterans spouse or a veterans surviving spouse are eligible for this benefit. The assistance may be applied for by whomever is handling the deceased final affairs by making an appointment with our office. We will need a copy of the veterans DD 214, proof of relationship (if deceased is other than the veteran), certificate of death and a detailed copy of the funeral invoice.

Please note that the funeral home final bill before any payment posting should not exceed a total of $5,000 to be considered for this benefit. (Back to Top)
