Mike Farmer is the Executive Director of the Butler County Veterans Service Commission and an accredited Service Officer. He graduated from Miami University with a Bachelor of Science degree in information technology and an Associate of Arts degree with concentration in business. 

Before using his VA Education Benefits at Miami University, Mike served in the United States Marine Corps. After graduating from Parris Island he was assigned to serve at Camp Lejeune North Carolina. He continually volunteers his time to assist veterans in their transitions. Beginning as a Co-Adviser to the Student Veterans Association on the Hamilton Campus, Mike has become a leader within Butler County and is a strong advocate for veterans’ affairs. Continuing on the path of serving those who served, Mike left Miami University in August 2016 to become a County Veterans Service Officer. His leadership, vision and desire to serve quickly became evident and in July 2020 when he was promoted to the position of Executive Director.

As Executive Director, Mike is responsible for the managing and budgeting just over $4.5 Million dollars to see that the Veterans of our community have access to all local, State and Federal benefits. In addition to overseeing funding, he is responsible for the oversight of all veterans programs and initiatives and managing a staff of 16 team members. Under Mike’s leadership, the Commission has been able to establish a dental program and Peer Mentor program for volunteers to serve and assist Veterans with the Veteran Treatment Courts within Butler County, Ohio. His technology expertise brings a different and unique approach to reaching Veterans through social media platforms and other non-traditional methods. 

In 2018 Mike was selected to be a member of the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers training team where he teaches the Basic Benefits Course. In June 2022 he was appointed to the position of Assistant National Service Director. He also serves as the Secretary to the Ohio State Association of County Veterans Service Officers and is involved in many other local committees throughout Butler County and the Miami Valley. 

He is a five time Past Commander of AMVETS Post 1983 in Hamilton, OH as well as a member of American Legion Post 138 and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans Hamilton-Fairfield Chapter #15.

Mike currently resides in Hamilton, Ohio with his spouse Karen.
